Fostering a healthy parent-child relationship can be tricky and complicated at times. My work with children and adolescents as well as adults has allowed me to better understand the needs of each side and identify the common challenges that often lead to communication breakdown and frustration. Together we will focus on:
- Understanding the underlying issues that lead to frustration and misunderstandings
- Assessing the needs and concerns of the parent and child
- Facilitating better communication and relationships
My work with children happens primarily through the parent(s). I seek to understanding the family and parent-child dynamics and provide understanding and strategies on how to address particular challenges and areas of frustration. This work invites the parent to see the areas where they may need to mofidy their approach and expand their perspective to create a more productive relationship.
Although I may meet with your child for a session or two, most of the work and is done with the parent.
The main concerns we can address include:
- Worry
- Emotional sensitivities
- Behavioural concerns – not listening, easily angered, lack of motivation
- Separation / Divorce
- Self-esteem
- Nightmares
- Adoption and attachment
- Self-esteem
- Depression
- Self-harm and cutting
- Sexual development
